Traffic radio to help ease city’s congestion
Commuters stuck in the daily gridlock on Ho Chi Minh City’s districts 10 and Go Vap’s roads now have a helping hand to escape jams by listening to traffic news, which was launched November 2 on Voice of HCMC (VOH).

A special program, “Traffic 24 hour,” will provide listeners with information about ongoing traffic congestions in HCMC.
From the information of ongoing traffic congestion, listeners can choose better routes, said Nguyen Van Tien, deputy editor of the program.
Mr. Tien added that the traffic reports will rely on official sources from the city’s traffic wardens and provided by Mai Linh taxi drivers.
On top of broadcasting the traffic news, VOH will also phone in the information to traffic police to dissolve snarl-ups.
VOH’s reporters will come to over one-hour blocked streets to report on the situation.
Via a dedicated hotline, VOH will also cooperate with retired state employees and businesspeople based along streets “most likely to have congestion” in order to help reduce tailbacks.
The live program will be broadcast five times a day on FM 99.9.
